The UK government has recently updated an agricultural grant that is designed to enable farmers and agricultural workers to receive funding for farming equipment and technology. Unlike previous agricultural grants, this updated 2024 version was separated into three different grant categories.
This farming equipment and technology fund (also known as the FETF) was designed to provide financial support for farmers to improve productivity, animal welfare & health and slurry management.
Although applications have closed, it’s important to understand the different categories for grant applications to ensure you receive the correct funding for machinery and equipment in the future.
These applications were judged on environmental benefits, level of industrial adoption and overall improvement of slurry management. There were 17 different slurry equipment items included to improve muck spreading and collection of slurry, these include robotic slurry collectors, flow rate monitoring or dribble bars. Unlike previous grants, the fund widened the specification for slurry separators to allow screen press, mobile separators and screw press items.
This grant was designed for commercial farmers that keep dairy or beef cattle, pigs and chickens. In the updated Farming Equipment and Technology Fund 2024, you could apply for funding for over 130 different products that are designed to improve the welfare of livestock and respond to unpredictable circumstances like biosecurity or heat stress.
It’s worth mentioning that if you visited your vet to discuss your grant application, you could automatically improve your score by 20%.
Applications for this particular category are mostly scored on the positive effects towards the priorities of the Animal Health and Welfare Pathway.
The items applied for within this grant category were mostly scored on the impact on environmental benefit, productivity benefit and adoption from the agricultural industry. There were over 80 approved items that are designed to improve agricultural productivity and were grouped into different categories for varying applications:
Items that were included within the “improve farming productivity grant” are cover crop rollers, closed transfer sprayer systems, tractor mounted stubble rakes and liquid fertiliser applicators, plus many more.
The Gov.uk website confirmed that there were a wide variety of financial grants available within this Farming Equipment and Technology Fund, allowing applicants to make the most of this updated opportunity.
The grant was designed to pay a percentage of the cost depending on the item. The three separate grant categories could have received
£1000 to £50,000 towards productivity machinery or technology
£1000 to £25,000 towards animal health and welfare items or technology
£1000 to £50,000 for slurry items or machinery
